What would you do if you saw a leopard attacking your friend?
While flight would be the natural reaction of most people, one 7-year-old boy became a local hero after rescuing his friend from a vicious leopard attack in the village of Arathiya in the Gir-Somnath district of Gujarat.
It was a usual Tuesday evening, when 7-year-old Jairaj Gohel was playing with his friend Nilesh right outside his house, when suddenly a leopard hiding in the bushes sprung onto Nilesh, attacking him.
As the cat tried to drag his friend away, Jairaj used his presence of mind, picked up a stone and flung it – hurting the carnivore.
But merely pelting stones did not faze the leopard. Jairaj then picked the electronic toy he was playing with and hurled it. When the toy started making sounds that were bizarre and unfamiliar to the animal, it released Nilesh and fled.

The forest department lauded the little boy’s efforts along with the principal of Arathiya Primary School, where the boys study.

Speaking to the Times of India, Pratap Rathod, Principal of Arathiya Primary School, said, “Jairaj’s presence of mind and courage to fight a leopard is exemplary. The village sarpanch informed the forest department. They have placed cages to catch the leopard.”
Jairaj is all set to be rewarded for his display of courage and quick thinking by the forest department at his school function.
