After Hand Baggage Tags, CISF May Soon Get Rid of Boarding Pass at Airports

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is doing everything possible to make security checks at airports quicker. Earlier it scrapped hand baggage stamps at 17 airports in the country, and now it’s looking at getting rid of the boarding pass too.

It will do so by introducing an ‘express check-in’ service in the 59 airports that it guards.

This move is part of its plan to introduce ‘integrated security solutions’ at airports.

“We are working on two projects. The first is how to introduce integrated security solutions at airports. You need to connect all dots that exist within the security establishment. You have so many strategies to do it – you have the biometrics, video analytics and a very robust access control system. We will try to interconnect all these things in a very integrated fashion,” CISF Director General, O P Singh, told PTI.

It is completely biometric – after printing their boarding pass from self-service kiosks, the passenger heads straight to the express security check lane. The CISF is now trying to explore this system for all the other airports, while also getting rid of the boarding pass completely.

The New Delhi airport is another one that has self-service kiosks, but passengers hardly ever use it, for lack of awareness.

On other fronts, the frisking of passengers seems to be occupying a lot of time. The CISF Director General said that our current frisking time is not more than 12 minutes.

“We have our own strategies to deal with passengers during peak time. Our frisking time is certainly better than global standards of the world,” the Economic Times quoted him as saying.
