Railways Will Soon Take You From Nagpur to Hyderabad in Only 3 Hours!

Planning to board a train from Nagpur to Hyderabad? It will not take a strenuous nine hours anymore.

If the latest plan of the Indian Railway Ministry sees the light of day, the rail journey between the two cities may only take a mere three hours, a senior official told the Economic Times.

The Railways has already worked out a blueprint for a semi-high speed corridor linking Nagpur and Hyderabad.

“The ministry has initiated a joint feasibility and implementation study with Russian Railways to chalk out details after which it will be sent to the Railway Board for approval,” the senior ministry official said.

The rationale behind the move is the unavailability of direct flights between the two cities. Also, a flight with a stopover may take over four hours.

The 584-km stretch between the cities is currently covered by trains at an average speed of 60km/hr and takes a minimum of nine hours.

The new plan is looking at running semi-high speed trains at an average speed of 160-200km/hr and strengthening the existing tracks and fencing off the route to cover the distance in the stipulated time.

What then is the major difference between semi-high speed trains and high-speed or bullet trains?

While semi-high speed trains can run at a maximum speed of 200 km/hr, the high-speed trains can run at 250-350 km/hr.

The report also highlights that the Delhi-Chandigarh corridor, also considered one of the busiest routes in north India, is nominated to be the first semi-high speed project being taken up by the Railways with help from France. This new technology will enable trains to run at a maximum speed of 200km/hr.
