Cops Violating Traffic Rules? Hyderabad Traffic Police Will Make Sure They Pay for It

The next time you see a traffic cop in Hyderabad flouting traffic rules, take a picture, post it on Twitter and tag the police administration. Rest assured that soon a challan will be issued to them.

This is what former MBT Corporator, Amjedullah Khan, did after he saw policemen violating rules. He tweeted images of cops riding without helmets on their motorbikes, parking their vehicle at ‘No Parking’ zones or triple riding, and tagged Hyderabad traffic police.

Soon after, using the hashtag #PracticingWhatWePreached, the city’s traffic department tweeted the e-challans that they issued to those cops who broke traffic rules.

“The public is posting pictures of traffic violations by policemen on social media including on our Facebook page and Twitter handle. So we are responding to them and providing details of the e-challans issued for the violations. Rules are uniform for motorists whether commoner or police officials,” deputy commissioner of police (Traffic), A.V. Ranganath, told Deccan Chronicle.

This month, they issued 200 challans to traffic cops who violated rules.

Apart from this, they also initiated disciplinary action against policemen, which included memos that were sent to headquarters.

The official also told the publication that it’s easy for them to make out if the rule breaker is a civilian or a cop – either through their uniform, or their vehicle.

Amjedullah continues to post such pictures and has encouraged others to follow suit.
