Must Read: This Letter From a Father to the Cop Who Helped His Daughter
The incident happened last Wednesday late at night in Bengaluru, where his daughter was left stranded due to heavy rain.
Last Thursday, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bengaluru, R Hithendra, got an anonymous letter from a father, who recounted his daughter’s ordeal on a rainy night in the city.
On August 23, she was travelling from Coimbatore to Bengaluru in a bus and was dropped at Madiwala instead of Marathahalli, which was the destination initially agreed upon.
The time was around 11:30 pm and it was raining heavily. Bengalureans are no doubt aware how inefficient public transport becomes on stormy nights like that. Unsurprisingly, it became harder for her to find any transport that would take her home.
This is when a traffic cop, Mr Mahadev, advised her to go to a nearby bus stop and wait for a bus.
Since she was alone with luggage at that hour, she decided to board a cab instead.
But that was another task. The one cab she booked wasn’t going to show up for the next 15 minutes. In that, spotting a girl standing alone, she was approached by several autorickshaw drivers, her father wrote in the letter.
However, all this time, the traffic cop had his watchful eyes set on her. As soon as the cab arrived, Mr Mahadev spoke to the driver to make sure he dropped the girl safely to her destination, and also noted down his number.
He then gave his number to the girl and made her promise to call him once she was home.
All this time, her father’s efforts of reaching her failed due to the traffic, which made him panic even more. But when he learnt about how Mr Mahadev had ensured his daughter reached home safe, he says it restored his faith in the system.
In his letter, he thanked the organisation, and especially Mr Mahadev, for the hard work they put in helping ordinary people, even in demanding situations.
The Additional Commissioner shared the letter on his Twitter page, writing how Mr Mahadev had done an excellent job and set an example for other police officers.
