Hyderabad Airport Launches India’s First Express Security Check for Those With No Check-In Baggage

The new process allows domestic passengers to head straight to the Express Security Check lane after availing their boarding passes from the self-service kiosks placed at the departure forecourt outside the terminal building.

No more waiting in queues for passengers without check-in baggage in Hyderabad!

An Express Security Check facility has been set up at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, to ensure that domestic passengers have a smooth air-travelling experience.

According to GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), which is the supervising body of RGIA, the facility makes the Hyderabad airport the first one in the country to facilitate passengers with a pre-embarkation security check, right at the terminal’s entry gate, according to TOI.

As stated in a press release, the facility was inaugurated by O.P. Singh, director general, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in presence of S.G.K. Kishore, CEO, GHIAL and other dignitaries from CISF and GHIAL on Friday.

This will eliminate the need of trudging through the check-in lane.

The international airport currently manoeuvres more than 18,000 domestic departure passengers on a day-to-day basis, out of which, around 40 per cent travel with mostly hand baggage, as per the release.

With the new initiative, not only would there be a reduction in the queues at check-in counters, which will be beneficial for airlines in improving their on-time performance (OTP), but also help the passengers in keeping calm throughout the process.

S.G.K. Kishore explained that the facility will help with substantial reduction in the load at check-in counters and the regular security check areas during peak hours. He also mentioned that it would prove beneficial for airports across the country as well, if they choose to undertake the new concept of Express security.

“Hyderabad Airport has had the privilege to be the First Airport in India to roll out end-to-end e-boarding process and pioneer doing away with stamping of baggage tags and boarding cards,” he added.
