By digitally locking the biometric details, the system won't let anyone access the data unless unlocked by the Aadhaar holder.
Worried that your Aadhaar biometric details may be misused?
A new mechanism by Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI, will enable digital locking of biometric details like fingerprint and iris data, with the help of your Aadhaar number.
While the system lets one lock or unlock their details temporarily, neither the Aadhaar holder nor any third party can access the biometrics for any authentication activities once the locking system is activated, thus averting potential misuse.
The procedure for availing the Biometric Lock System requires you to enter theor Aadhaar number as well as the system-generated security code or captcha displayed in the UIDAI website.
Following which, you will have to enter the OTP (one time password) that you will receive on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

After entering the OTP, you can lock the biometric details by providing a unique password.
The procedure for unlocking or disabling the locking system is also carried out through the aforementioned steps.
It is important to note that a registered mobile number is crucial for availing the service.
UIDAI alerts the users to use the system with caution for its enabling will prevent denial of authentication services.
