Registered as a Trust in 2014, RISE is an International Development charity, headquartered in London, UK. RISE addresses educational disadvantage in India while promoting Youth Social Action in the UK through a social enterprise ‘ROAR Challenge’ in secondary schools. RISE in India works in rural West Bengal, where 46% of 10 year olds are at least 3 years behind their expected reading level. ‘Yearn to Learn’ is our unique, free supplementary Bengali programme for children most at risk of dropping out of school. We strive to ensure our students have the sufficient level of literacy and provide holistic support to their families. RISE has developed an innovative curriculum of Bengali literacy activities; delivered by motivated teachers, to support the specific needs of our learners and help them progress from recognising letters of the alphabets to independently constructing sentences.


We are at a hugely exciting time for the charity where we have the potential to make radical systemic change through our two core programmes, ‘Yearn to Learn’ and the ROAR Challenge. We also have the opportunity to raise awareness of our work and encourage citizenship globally through our campaign Survival Week. As India Associate Director you will manage the India operations, implement the strategic plan for the organisation and create new funding opportunities and partnerships. We are looking for an ambitious individual to come on board and utilise their previous experience to bring establish RISE as reputable and recognised education charity.



Position of India Associate Director:

RISE is looking for a highly motivated, organised, responsible and skilled communicator to play a vital role in maximising the development of RISE in India. You will build relationships and foster strong connections, manage projects and communicate frequently with both staff in London and India. Your work will focus on ensuring that the local team in Krishnagar is providing high impact support and building capacity so that RISE has the ability to contribute to society as a whole.




Leadership and Project Management:

  • Assume responsibility for the leadership of the India team and delivery of the charity’s India projects.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with the team in the UK for Yearn to Learn and ROAR student partnership and other projects.
  • Coordinate activities and efforts of RISE volunteers.
  • Resolve risks and issues; monitor, evaluate and report on programme progress and areas for improvement.
  • Strengthen and Manage the India Board of Trustees and the charity’s corporate network.
  • Manage our external supporters, corporate partners and individual donors, including relationship management of potential celebrity figureheads and other agencies.



  • Contribute to the growth of Yearn to Learn through creation of a strategic roadmap.
  • Build the charity’s funding strategy.
  • Focus on developing future affiliations with recognised educational programmes.
  • Liaise with press and media and establish a public relations strategy.


  • Create a clear funding plan and strategy to help RISE achieve its strategic plan.
  • Work on proposal development for India corporates and attend meetings to present.
  • Make grant submissions to relevant Trusts and Foundations.


  • Manage India accounts and create financial forecasts, utilising staff time allocations.
  • Develop and manage internal and organisational policies and human resources tasks such as recruitment, holiday tracking, and weekly internal meetings.
  • Ensure the organisation’s adherence as registered Trust in India.


·         A Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree holder

·         2 to 4 years of work experience

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote) and the Internet

·         Demonstrated excellence in organisational, managerial and communication skills


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Fluency in written and spoken Bengali

·         Fluency in written and spoken English

·         Strong leadership skills, high level of energy, work under pressure, support and motivate others

·         Brilliant communications skills to interact/ negotiate with Government, companies and with people

·         Excellent report/ proposal/ document writing skills

·         Experience in Corporate Social Responsibility will be added advantage

·         Passionate about working at the base level with Rural India and understanding grass root problems

·         Ability to ideate on curriculum modules, teaching and learning skills
