Wi-Fi, Vending Machines & Cheap Fares: New Double-Decker AC Train UDAY Express All Set to Roll out

With 40% more seating capacity than most other trains, the UDAY Express will ply in high-demand routes like Delhi and Lucknow.

In what’s likely to be great news for anyone planning a trip in and around Delhi and Lucknow, the Indian Railways has just announced that the proposed Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri train is all set to be launched in July.

The train, which has been colloquially been dubbed Uday Express, is set to ply in popular and high-demand routes such as Delhi and Lucknow. Meant for overnight journeys, the double-decker train has AC coaches with a seating capacity of 120. Since it is a double-decker, it has 40 percent more carrying capacity than other trains.

But that’s not all.

The Uday Express comes with a host of amenities such as LCD screens in each coach with Wi-Fi speaker systems. It also has huge automatic vending machines that will dispense snacks as well as beverages such as cold drinks and tea. Despite the fact that it comes with a number of features, authorities have noted that its fare will be cheaper than that of a AC 3-tier ticket in regular trains.

While, the train is meant for overnight journeys, the coaches only sport seats rather than sleeper births. However, given that the seats are plush recliners, the authorities have notified that the passengers will not be put at discomfort. They also have noted that additional measures will be taken keeping the comfort of passengers in mind.

The Indian railways has been preparing to meet the demands of peak season (summer vacations) this year by introducing a slew of initiatives. Most recently, it also launched Vistadome coaches (with glass ceiling) for the Kothavalasa-Kirandul passenger train that travels between Vishakhapatnam and Araku.
