Lucknow Teen’s Hard Work Wins Him Scholarship Worth ₹2 Crore to Study in an Ivy League University

Lakshay Sharma is on cloud nine right now. Not only is he heading to one of the top universities in the world, he has also gotten a full scholarship worth ₹2 crore to attend it!

The teenager, who is from Lucknow, has gotten a 100% scholarship to attend the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League research university. While he had been earlier preparing to apply to one of the Indian Institutes of Technology in Kota, he changed tracks midway and decided to try to the best universities globally.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the triumphant teenager opened up about his application process, noting that he has been preparing for the process since he was in class 10. He says, “I had to complete my application to the US universities while simultaneously preparing for class 11 and 12, studying for the JEE and other competitive exams and participating in international Olympiads such as International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2015, and the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2016.”

Having studied in City Montessori School in Gomti Nagar, Lakshay ended up walking away with the Gold medal at IJSO in 2015.

He got a perfect score of 800 in physics, chemistry and mathematics II in the SAT exams (the standardised tests for universities in United States).

Oh, and he also scored the Gold Medal at IOAA 2015 and was ranked 13 across India in the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), a scholarship programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

But it isn’t just all work and no play for Lakshay. The teen enjoys playing the synthesizer and unwinds by listening to Bollywood songs. He is also a keen quiz buff and is passionate about astronomy.
