This Hyderabad Constable Who Rescued over 20 People from a Building on Fire Is a True Hero!

Constable Bheem Rao from Humayun Nagar police station in Hyderabad didn’t think about his life even once before rushing into a building on fire to rescue as many people as he could. The fire broke out in an office located in Osman Plaza in Mehdipatnam, on Monday morning.

The fire control room received a call about it at 11:30 am. Of the 30 flats in Osman Plaza, nine are let out to businesses while the rest are residential.

On noticing thick black smoke coming out from the first floor, the watchman alerted the locals. Bheem Rao, who was on duty in the nearby police station also received the information. He rushed to the spot only to find that the fire, which had started on the first floor, had already reached the second floor. The first thing he did was to bring out an LPG cylinder from the first floor to prevent an explosion that would lead to further disaster. According to reports, he went on to help about 50 people trapped inside, and brought them to the ground floor.

“When the fire broke out, residents on higher floors started moving upstairs instead of coming down. I had to run after them to bring them down. There were also many aged inside the building who were not that agile. When I heard them scream and shout, I rushed to their flats and started pulling them out. After that I began carrying them downstairs to safety,” he told The Times of India.

Ayesha Rubina, Ahmed Nagar corporator who was also nearby at the time, joined him in the rescue operation. She told The New Indian Express that the fire department personnel reached the spot at 12. Till then, they switched off the main electricity supply and carried out the rescue operation. “Fortunately, the constable moved the gas cylinders in the kitchen. By doing so he saved a few more dozen lives of people living in buildings around it.”

Bheem Rao joined the force in 2009 and was recently transferred to Humayun Nagar police station from Chatrinaka.
