When a Delhi Girl Wanted to Commit Suicide, Here’s How a Snapchat Community Saved Her Life

Perhaps it was a sheer sense of desperation that made a 20-year-old pregnant woman from Delhi send a message to a well-known Snapchat group claiming that she wanted to end her life by overdosing on drugs.

“I’m only 20 and the boy who knocked me up isn’t even my boyfriend. I’m so scared I think I’ll OD tonight so I don’t bring shame to my family,” the woman (who didn’t identify herself) wrote on the group called The Artidote.

The community (that includes members from across the world) immediately rallied around her and sent her positive messages through Snapchat, beseeching her not to make hasty decisions. They told her that no matter how bleak, life is entirely worth living. One member wrote, “Hugs….harming yourself is not a solution. Your parents wouldn’t want to see you in that state no matter how serious the issue. You’ll need to discuss this with someone, and stay strong for whatever decision you take.”

The snaps were then posted on the group’s Facebook page, which garnered instant support in the comments section. It has been shared over 600 times and has over 7,000 likes as well.

The girl posted an update a few hours later that she was grateful for the support and love she had received from everyone and that her mother is now helping her make medical decisions regarding the pregnancy.
