How Quick-Thinking Girls, Mumbai Police & Twitter Led to the Arrest of a Pervert in Just 3 Hours

Thanks to two quick-thinking teenage girls, the prompt action by Mumbai police, and the power of social media – a pervert trying to harass the girls by masturbating in front of them has been arrested.

The two girls faced this shocking incident in Mumbai on Tuesday, when they were waiting in an auto-rickshaw at the signal on 16th road, Khar West. The man had been following them on his bike, and he started masturbating while looking at them at the signal. He was also passing vulgar comments towards them.

The girls immediately took the offender’s picture and circulated it amongst their friends. They also noted down his license plate number. One of their friends tweeted the picture, tagging the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police to the tweet.

The Mumbai police replied in five minutes and arrested him in three hours.

“Looking at the girls, the accused flashed his private parts and began masturbating on the moving bike. The teenage girls were horrified, but did the smartest thing by clicking his photographs and catching him in the act,” a police officer from Khar police station told to MidDay.

The culprit was identified as Rais Likayat Qureshi, a 35-year-old resident of Bandra.

Please Note: The face of the alleged perpetrator has been blurred since he has only been arrested and not tried as yet. As a responsible media organization, The Better India does not wish to accuse someone before they have received fair trial in a court of law.
