A Soldier Died Saving a Girl from Eve Teasers. His Death Led Her to Aspire for Something Really Big

Vadmitra Chowdhary, a 31-year-old soldier from Meerut stepped up to save a girl from harassment but could not save his own life in the process. He stood true to his duties and will be recognized as a martyr.

On Saturday, an Army jawan lost his life while he stood true to his duty and saved a girl in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The girl was being harassed by a group of eve teasers, when Vadmitra Chowdhary, a 31-year-old soldier, came up to protect her. Unfortunately, he was beaten up by the group and succumbed to his injuries in the Army hospital later that day.

A resident of Gopal Vihar, Vadmitra had come to buy milk from a booth in Hardev Nagar where he saw a group of boys harassing the daughter of the booth owner.

The girl, who had come to the shop to serve tea, screamed when the miscreants approached her. Though her family reached the spot, they could not stop them from teasing her. Hearing the noise, the soldier came out of the shop and rushed to help.

Vadmitra managed to chase away the culprits but they returned with about 15-20 people armed with hockey sticks and iron rods. They started hitting Vadmitra who got severely injured.

He was rushed to the military hospital but could not be saved

Vadmitra was a part of the 58 Engineers Regiment and was posted at HQ 416 Engineers Brigade camp in Meerut. Three of the culprits have been arrested and the search for other unidentified assailants is on. The girl who was eve teased claimed that she was being harassed by these men since the past six days but was too scared to talk about it.

After witnessing the incident, she has decided to become a civil servant so that she can punish such people in the future. She also claimed that about 50 people watched the entire incident, but no one stood up for help.

The Indian Army mourned the soldier’s death. “Gen Dalbir Singh, COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army express heartfelt condolences to the grief stricken family of Sapper Ved Mitra Choudhary, who laid down his life protecting the honour of a girl in Meerut. We pray to the almighty to give the family courage and strength to bear the irreparable loss,” says Indian Army’s Facebook page.
