The Government Launches A Pan-India Contest For Developing The PMO Mobile App

MyGov.in and Google have launched an interesting contest where developers are invited to build an official mobile app for the PMO. Not only this, the winning team will also get an opportunity to visit Google’s US headquarters. So submit your ideas today!

Do you have interesting ideas on how citizens should connect with the Prime Minister? Well, then here’s a chance for you to get inside Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and even design an app for them.

Government’s citizen-engagement platform MyGov, and Google, have launched a contest on Monday, March 02, to build a mobile app where developers and their teams can register and submit their ideas.

Five shortlisted teams with the best ideas will be given an opportunity to design the app with support and mentorship from Google. Not only this the winning team will also get a chance to visit Google’s US headquarters.

Also, the teams with the best ideas will win an Android One device and a certificate of appreciation.

“Rather than tell people what app they should use to engage with the government, the competition will give people a chance to say what they want from an app and give India’s immensely talented developers an opportunity to build it. And we’ll provide some guidance and mentoring along the way,” posted Chetan Krishnaswamy, Country Head – Public Policy, Google India.

The contest will be held across the country in various colleges and institutions. With constantly increasing mobile internet users, this seems like a great step to help people use the mobile phone as a window to look into the PM’s office.

Participants can submit their ideas at MyGov.in website and can also vote for other interesting ideas.

Here’s what the PM had to say about the initiative:

This is how the contest will work:

  1. Up till 12th March, anyone can create an account on MyGov.in and log in to submit their ideas and vote for other ideas.
  2. Once all the ideas are submitted, the participants will be asked to submit rough blueprints (wireframes) for how they would build an app for the Prime Minister’s Office.
  3. Out of all the entries, the top five ideas will be shortlisted and the teams will be invited to build the apps under the mentorship of Google. The winning team will be decided by the jury and their app will become the official app of the PMO.

“Through @mygovindia I am going to seek ideas for PMO Mobile App. After that it will be about execution,” said PM Narendra Modi.

So all you talented Indians, what are you waiting for? Here’s your chance to shine and have a say in how the PMO of India works!
