These Beautiful Pictures of Kolkata’s Heritage Buildings Will Take You on a Trip Back in Time

Making way for commercial and residential projects, most of our cities, in their race towards development, are losing their heritage buildings.

Standing tall for decades and some even for over a century, these have stood the test of life and are the only links to our past.

The city of Kolkata or Calcutta, with its old world charm,is deeply imbued with cultural legacy.

Being witnesses to one of the first examples of colonial architecture in the country, some of the historic buildings come a very long way.

Capturing the city through its 19th century heritage buildings is one photography project by a group of three friends. They are leaving no stone unturned to document these time-tested relics that face the threats of modern-day civilisation.

Titled Calcutta Houses, the project on Instagram has been undertaken by Manish Golder, Sidhartha Hajra and Sayan Dutta in their pursuit of archiving the city’s roots through its heritage homes.

The project finds its inspiration from the Calcutta Architectural Legacies project by Amit Chaudhuri and some of the city’s architects and conservationists,

Here’s a glimpse into the old world charm of Calcutta that will give you a trip down memory lane:
