AIIMS Topper & National-Level Basketball Player, Nishita Purohit Juggles It All

Surat Girl Nishita Purohit has topped the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exam for its MBBS course.

With the results being released in the early hours today, the 18-year-old is elated with her success.

Upon being asked about her thoughts on securing the top rank, “I was not sure about the topper’s rank in AIIMS but was certain about being selected for AIIMS”, Nishita told HT.

Part of the Kota-based Allen Career Institute where she underwent coaching for the medical exams, Nishita has her eyes set on studying cardiology or radiology at AIIMS. She had also performed well in her Class 12 boards with a brilliant score of 91.4 per cent and is also a national level basketball player.

Owing her success to her family members and coaching institute, “While my coaching institute guided me to success, my mother regularly visited me during my stay in Kota and both she and my brother, Anshul, motivated me to do my best,” she said.

Coming from a scholarly family background with both father and brother being IIT alumni and mother a pharmacy graduate, Nishita draws her source of inspiration from her brother, who currently works in USA.

Distributing her time equally between coaching classes and self-study, Nishita spent 12-hours a day preparing for the exams and attributed her success mantra to classroom learning and its daily follow up.
