A Cool New Way to Counter the Plastic Menace: Axis Bank Launches Biodegradable Cards
Introducing biodegradable cards on World Environment Day, Axis bank has spearheaded a movement that advocates better eco-friendly practices.
With each passing year, the amount of plastic waste generated in the country is rising exponentially.
According to a report by Central Pollution Control Board or CPCB, for the year 2014-15, an estimated amount of 15,342 tonnes of plastic waste was generated in the country.
Almost 40 per cent of this waste, instead of heading to recycling units, ends up littered or uncollected.
With growing concerns over the environment being subjected to rampant abuse, an initiative by Axis Bank is not just innovative but environment-friendly too!
Introducing biodegradable cards – the first of its kind in India — on World Environment Day that look and feel like regular payment cards, the country’s third-largest private bank has spearheaded a movement that advocates better eco-friendly practices.
The cards have been introduced under the gift card segment by the bank. Made of Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) that is derived from polyester, the cards do not release carbon, methane or any other harmful pollutants and can easily decompose without any extra work.
“Consumers as well as institutions are growing conscious of the ecological footprint of business activities and are looking for environmental friendly solutions. Still, there are many who are unaware of the benefits of biodegradable products. With this, we are excited to offer our customers a simple way to contribute to the environment,” said Sangram Singh, who is the Bank’s head for Payments Business, during the launch.
The cards will be soon available on select gift card products and acceptable at all domestic merchant outlets and online portals.
The initiative offers customers an electronic option for gifting loved ones and as a reward tool for corporates, inculcating environmental friendly consciousness amidst people.
An easy way to contribute towards saving our already pressured planet, this move will make sure that your ‘plastic’ has an expiry date in every way.
